The Centre Sèvres - Facultés jésuites de Paris is a university-level institution established in 1974 in Paris that focuses on the study of theology and philosophy. It was created following the amalgamation of the Faculty of Theology at Lyon-Fourvière and the Faculty of Philosophy at Chantilly. Though initially an institution restricted to Jesuits, it now welcomes men and women, lay and religious. Pursuant to the Apostolic Constitution of Pope John Paul II on Catholic Universities and Ecclesiastical Faculties (Sapientia christiana) of April 15, 1979, and the ordinances of the Congregation for Catholic Education, the canonical statutes of the Center were approved by Rome on June 18, 1986. The Centre Sèvres belongs to the Province of France of the Society of Jesus; it is a private establishment of independent higher education.
